Have a loved one struggling with trauma or relationship safety?
It can be hard to know how to have conversations about online safety, sex, and dating. But often getting education from Heart isn’t enough if people go home to an environment that is not supportive of that learning and growth. Paid and unpaid caregivers can have a huge impact on people’s ability to connect safely with others by having non-judgmental conversations, changing how they respond to unsafe or risky choices, and helping to create more opportunities to connect safely.
How Heart can help
We talk to parents and other caregivers about how to have difficult conversations in more helpful ways. We work with caregivers to move away from behavioral plans, such as taking away a phone for “bad behavior” and move toward a more holistic approach. An approach that really understands what’s driving certain choices and addressing the underlying needs of the individual rather than implementing consequences that don’t work in the long term.
Workshops
Heart partners with Waisman Center Community Outreach Wisconsin to provide regular trainings on a variety of topics. We also do some group workshops privately. Check out our events page or sign up for the newsletter to know when events are happening!
Individual Consultation
Through Wisconsin County CLTS and Inclusa or Lakeland Care Family Care programs we can work individually with caregivers to learn more about supporting someone who has experienced trauma, joining with neurodivergent teens and adults to learn about healthy and safe relationships and sexuality, and reviewing behavioral support plans to ensure that client rights are respected and care is trauma-informed.
